Who Am I?

I’m a long-time educator, health coach, nationally certified personal trainer, and group fitness instructor. With a PhD in Social Studies Education, over twenty years in the fitness industry and more than ten in the corporate wellness field, I’ve made it my life’s work to help others improve their health and achieve their fitness goals.

As Avidity Co-Founder (and glittery sister), I bring a goofy, positive, encouraging sense of humor and personality to every event and coaching session. I enjoy getting to know my clients, what makes them tick, what motivates them, and how their lives impact their wellness journey. I try to cater to their needs and design a plan to help them not only reach their goals, but to learn in the process. I love to give someone the “Readers’ Digest” version of almost any bit of information, so that’s it’s easy to understand, remember, and embrace. I strive to help others make their past experiences and struggles become their drivers and motivators for improvement. As a presenter and instructor, my job requires me to tailor my classes to the needs of my participants and my presentations  to different demographics. I will work to motivate and inspire you to accomplish more than you ever believed!

Why I Do What I Do

As an adolescent, I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis, and wore a back brace for four years, 23 hours a day, which severely restricted my mobility. I experienced physical and emotional pain, gained a significant amount of weight, and suffered from low self-esteem. As an adult, I was able to find joy in exercise, specifically running, which helped strengthen my back and positively impacted my entire well-being. Now pain-free, I’ve completed over 45 full marathons, including the coveted Boston. I’ve also won my age group in triathlons and dozens of other distance races. I truly believe that my journey has taught me the virtues of hope, perseverance, and inner strength.

I also had a personal cancer scare in my early 30’s. It was during this time, I decided to truly embrace the power of nutrition and dove into the realms of a variety of research and information. I learned about the powers of healing the body through food, and committed whole-heartedly to a plant-based diet. I’ve been completely cancer free since 2011!

Who Am I?

I’m a nationally certified personal trainer and group instructor through AFAA / NASM, wellness coach, holistic food specialist, and music aficionado.

As Avidity Co-Founder (adventurous sister), for me, food is fuel and eating foods the way they are found in nature, and in season, is crucial to an extended lifespan and overall well-being. With all of the processed food, and the atrocities of conventional farming and food handling methods, the need to adhere to a pure, plant-rich diet is more important now than ever.

Giving cooking demos and classes ranging from alternative baking to showing how to fight chronic illnesses through food, either in your home or in a public space, is an experience I love sharing with people.

Why I Do What I Do

As a child, I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a neurological disorder that involves uncontrollable, repetitive movements or tics. At 8 years old, it was a confusing and devastating reality that I feared would be a part of my life forever. Instead of turning to traditional medicine to treat my disorder, my father opted for a more holistic route; he completely altered my diet. Together, we worked to cut out any and all sugars, preservatives, or processed foods. In just a few short years, my symptoms were no longer controlling me and I was able to return to a mostly normal life.

A few years later, I began to struggle with severe acne and skin inflammation – constantly having to reapply makeup. Because I ate “healthy” I considered my acne to be hormonal and not triggered by my diet. I eventually had enough and at age 18 visited a naturopathic doctor, who encouraged me to try to eliminate one food at a time from my diet. Within two weeks of eliminating any and all dairy products I had not ONE sign of acne. (See, I’m on my own journey too!) My world shifted and I finally understood how food could either be our nourishment or our destruction.

During college, I spent some time learning the art of vegan baking at the bakery, Babycakes NYC. I moved to Guatemala in 2013, where I ran my own bakery, specializing in allergy friendly treats, while teaching classes at a local culinary school. In early 2016, I relocated to Scottsdale, AZ where I started working as a corporate, bilingual health coach and a personal trainer.

My hope is to be a sounding board for your nutritional concerns, a guide for how to be a healthier you, and a wellness expert to help you launch your next personal, group or company event. Whether you need a one-on-one session nutritional coaching session, meal plans or suggestions, or a pantry redesign day, I’m here to make your wellness goals achievable and the idea of wellness approachable, one tasty bite at a time.

What’s my Personal Mission?

To remove the word “diet” from everyone’s vocabulary.
